Just a thought...are any of the files read only? I have had that problem in the past. I had to use a DOS utility to reset the file attributes, ie make the files all read/write instead of read only. Try putting the files on a USB stick, make sure they are read/write and try to connect to the files on the USB stick instead of on the hard drive. Mike

All his workstations run from a server installation of 7.6, but when setting up the workstation, he did a full installation on the workstation. When he tried to connect to the network db, he got "Database is connected in a mode..." and cannot connect. I uninstalled the local (C:\RBTI\RBG76) RB 7.6 and created a desktop icon, including the -a, using "Desktop Shortcut Properties" under "Server Installation" of the "Getting Started Guide". R:Base starts up, but still cannot connect to the db. The weird thing is he cannot connect to ANY db, even ones (backups) that we know are not connected to, although he doesn't get the "mode" message, he just cannot connect. The user on that workstation has full rights to program and data subdirectories. Scratch is an existing C:\TEMP, from which I deleted all *.$$$ files. I also checked for errant RBASE.DAT or config files on the local drive and mapped network drives. And we rebooted a few times too. RB is running fine on the other workstations. So what's the obvious that I'm not seeing that prevents this workstation from connecting to a db? TIA Doug
