It needs to be: (FORMAT(columname,'(%%%) %%%-%%%%'))

Also, say we start with a value of 8001234567

then leaving the space in the FORMAT argument results in (800)1234-567

FORMAT(columname,'(%%%)%%%-%%%%')) results in  (800)123-4567
