Thanks to everyone for all of their input. From your comments and from
experimenting further it appears that the view isn't updating automatically
by design - it's being "driven" by the parent table on the form. The PREVTAB
and RECALC TABLE did the trick for getting the noneditable view (child
table) to refresh.
I had planned on keeping the NONHD view the active table and tried setting a
variable vpart = 2, and then on entry into row in table 1 checking for that
value. If that value is 2, then execute a NEXTTAB to place back on the view.
After getting the error message "Insufficient memory to continue this
function" I have decided to stop being so greedy and be content with the
form etc for now..
