can't print

Upgraded from 4.0 to 5.5DOS and when the command to print is given the program locks up. Can't even print to screen - program freezes. The rest of the program seems to work fine, just can't print anything. Have tried changing the memory settings, but it does not seem to make a difference.   Solutions? Suggestions?   tia   Janet
