G'day David,
We went the other way and created a little VB app that displays a list
of files which have the person, organisation or job ID as part of the name.
From a person, org or job record you click a button which launches
the VB app which loads the list of matching file names.
From there if you click on a file it opens the native app for that file
with the file loaded.
The advantage of your way is that documents can be named anything
the user likes and you do not have to include an ID as part of the name.
The down side is the maintenance of the doc names table.
We also created a few other nifty features, like being able to (from
within the VB app) go to an archive directory from the default dir
and being able to search all related docs for a given text string.
