Dear JM, The first (only) thing that smacked me in the mouth from your data was a FILES setting of 5.
As the problem occurs not on other OS and is not easily replicated it is unlikely to be the cause...but as a test, change it to 35 and if the problem goes away... GREAT! Did you run the code with SET MESSAGES ON and SET ERROR MESSAGES ON as well as TRACEing it?
