David,
I sent your client an email asking him about
it. I never tried running 6.1a which require a server6.rbg file and 6.5++
which does not require the server file, on the same database. Does multi
still stay on?
Doesn't 6.5++ want to convert the
database?

Just curious: have you installed R:Base for DOS
6.5++ on the same system and tried it? Does the same problem
occur? If yes, then there is something in common off here; if no, an
immediate good reason to upgrade.
I'd suggest if all else fails that you contact
Frank Conroy, a client of mine, who is successfully running R:Base for DOS -
now 6.5++ AND I believe still 6.1A but I'm not sure - on a WIndows 2000 set of
machines. You can reach him by email at [EMAIL PROTECTED]. Find out how
he has things configured in W2K and might be able to help you.

Attrib shows "A" both before and after I
get the "Invalid Server6.rbg file for this database"
There is no other server6.rbg file on the
server or on the client.
Again, when I get this message, at the R> I
can copy the backup server file and then I can exit and click on the icon to
come back in and all is well, but if I exit again and come back in, the
server file is invalid again.
Is there anything I can tweek on the W2K
client.
It's on a Lantastic network with a stand alone
W2k client server.
Is there a compatibility problem between W2K
and RB61a?
This new IBM computer came with W2K installed,
but unless I can solve this problem, I will have to format the drive and
load W98.

I'm not sure, but it's worth
checking!
When you can't get in, go to DOS and check
the file with ATTRIB server6.rbg: what does it show?

David,
This is the only computer that does this
corruption.
I put the old computer back and took this
one offline until I can figure out what to do.
Would rights be different for a w2k client
than for the other win98 & win95 clients?

I copy the backup server6 file onto the
real one, then exit, then click the icon to get back in and all is
ok. If I exit and then click the icon to come back in, I get the
above message.
Then I do the copy, exit, back in and all
is well. I can repeat this procedure many times.
Any ideas why this is

My first guess would be to check rights
to the directory where server6.rbg is. Sounds like the file is
not getting closed out correctly when you exit R:Base.

Just replaced a W98 machine with a
w2k.
Every other time it connects it
corrupts the server6.rbg file.
