If you insert or delete rows in the Browse/Edit screen, and you have setting: SET LAYOUT ON, then R:Base does not count the insert/delete record - your count of records will be wrong. The row will show in all data use, it will just report an error if you pack or reload.
It works properly with LAYOUT OFF. It also works properly if done in a form. Perhaps, what you encountered is related? Jim Blackburn "J.
