What do you mean by "look at?"  

R:Base can present files of various types to a user, through the Launch 
command. 

If you want the R:Base command language to interpret file names or file 
data, and take action based on what it finds, then loading text to a table, 
or doing a DIR and loading the results of the DIR to a table, are among 
your options.
