If you want to look at the different names of files in a folder and select
one, you can use the choose command:
CHOOSE varname FROM #LFILES in filespec
 If files spec is not specified it looks at all the files in the directory
otherwise if filespec is specified such as *.txt all the files with the .txt
extension will be displayed.
For example, In the applications that I develop, whenever the user stores a
report to file, it goes to a reports sub-directory under the current
directory with a user selected name and the extension .txt. To display a
list of the files, select one and display it, the following code works great

==================
CHOOSE file_name FROM #LFILES IN reports\*.txt AT CENTER CENTER TITLE
'SELECT FILE...'  CAPTION 'DISPLAY UTILITY'
SET VAR file_name = ( 'reports\' + .file_name )
LAUNCH &file_name
RETURN
==================
The choose command will display all the files with the extension .txt, the
launch command will launch whatever program is associated with the .txt
extension in windows, normally WORDPAD; however you can change this
association from Windows and have your favorite editor open the file. If you
do not use a filespec or define it as *.* it will display all the files and
then, whenever you LAUNCH the file, it will open with the associated
program, i.e. .XLS with EXCEL, etc.
I hope this is what you were looking for.

Subject: How does Rbase look at files in a folder

Hi all,

Are there any other ways to make Rbase 6.5++ look at files in a folder
besides generating a text file, and loading that data into a table?
The text file rig works great. I just want to make sure I covered all my
options before moving forward with my program.

Thanks
SD
