You
could have an issue with security if you leave one or more of your workstations
using Win98 and the shared data is on a WinXp computer. Logging on to a WinXp
computer, you would have to setup each user in the control panel on your WinXp
computer with passwords for all of the users on your system and change the logon
at each of the Win98 computers. In the long run you are better off
upgrading all your computers at once rather than piecemeal.
Also
be aware that WinXp has hardware requirements that may necessitate changing some
of your equipment.
Go to
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/compatibility/default.asp and
check out the download for Upgrade Advisor to see what issues, if any, you may
have in upgrading to WinXp.
An
alternative is to upgrade to Win2000 Professional, it is a rock solid platform
and you'll probably save some dollars.
Good
luck !
