All a matter of preference. I turn it ON always, and turn it off only when
the processing would work better, which is seldom. Since R:Base does not
support Empty strings, this is critical. As most data processing I have been
involved in could care less about the concept of NULL, EQNULL ON eliminates
a lot of complexity. I run with ZERO ON also so calculations won't blow up
on NULLS. My opinion? If it ain't filled in, it is zero.

On the rare occasions where SQL's three-state logic makes sense, I can turn
on these features. But I definitely do not consider these features
obsolete. They allow easy to maintain code where three value complexity is
unnecessary.

Subject: RE: EQNULL

EQNULL, I think, was retained for backwards compatibility to very early
versions of R:Base, which treated NULLs almost as if they were Empty Strings
rather than NULL. I never set it on, myself.
