Bob, I haven't used swipe readers, but I have used barcode scanners, and they worked fine. I have studied swipe readers for a couple of other potential projects, and they don't seem to propose any more difficulty in implementation than scanners. They fully emulate keyboard input, so you can use them with a standard input/dialog prompt, or even in a data entry field in a form.
I did a proof-of-concept prototype for one client using a barcode scanner, and they thought I had performed magic. It only took about an hour to put the prototype demo together, and it landed a full development contract. I have need for using small card swipe readers to input employee information. I have seen some readers that are keyboard wedge type, and am sure that would work fine, but I would like to use (4) readers. I have seen USB and RS232 types also. Any input would be greatly appreciated. By using the power of Rbase and Rmail, I will be able to code a program to do exactly what I want, if I can resolve the barcode swipe issue. Thank you all in advance! ================================================ TO SEE MESSAGE POSTING GUIDELINES: Send a plain text email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] In the message body, put just two words: INTRO rbase-l ================================================ TO UNSUBSCRIBE: send a plain text email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] In the message body, put just two words: UNSUBSCRIBE rbase-l ================================================ TO SEARCH ARCHIVES: http://www.mail-archive.com/rbase-l%40sonetmail.com/ ================================================ TO SEE MESSAGE POSTING GUIDELINES: Send a plain text email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] In the message body, put just two words: INTRO rbase-l ================================================ TO UNSUBSCRIBE: send a plain text email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] In the message body, put just two words: UNSUBSCRIBE rbase-l ================================================ TO SEARCH ARCHIVES: http://www.mail-archive.com/rbase-l%40sonetmail.com/
