Also, scanners are more reliable/forgiving than light pens. Quailty of the bar code is important too. The scanner/wedge can be a gun that you point at the bar code or even a standup variety that you pass the bar code under. They should have auto recognition of the more popular codes (i.e. Code39). Some of my customers have Symbol, but I think it's like PC's. Worth shopping around.
