While it is try that R:Base is pretty relaxed about using quotes in lists in
this particular situation, I would strongly recommend coding with the
quotes. In each successive version R:Base has gotten stricter about
adherence to the things like this, and at some point you will need to use
the quotes.
If you code without the quotes you will have a program that is correct
because "my data doesn't have space, commas, hyphens, etc in it". If you
code with the quotes your program will be guaranteed correct by design.
