Can you suggest in what areas we should expect to
see this improved performance? I'm asking primarily
because I'm not personally familiar with any areas
that look like they could possibly have their
performance improved.

This would be most beneficial in a situation where
you are connecting to the same database either
directly using R:BASE 7.x/8.x, or via Oterro DSN
when you have Disk Full or I/O -ERROR-s in a complex
multi-user environment.

To really see the difference, try the following cool
test at the R> prompt. Just type the following and
press [Enter].

CHKDSK fh -- file handles

Notice the results in 6.x or 7.x (until update 76)
and the latest Pre-Release (Update 77 08/27/2004).

Notice the difference and imagine the possibilities!

This is a MAJOR step forward to enhance R:BASE I/O
routines for upcoming updates/versions as well as a
few commercial products handling R:BASE applications
on Desktop, InterNet, IntraNet, LAN/WAN, RDT using
R:BASE 7.x, 8.0 or Oterro 3.x.

Originally, the concept of enhanced I/O was implemented
in R:BASE V-8 "Turbo" Private Beta, but our development
team has decided to incorporate the same routines in
current versions of R:BASE and Oterro. "RBIO" is designed
to work with R:BASE 7.x/8.x and "OTIO" is designed to
work with Oterro 3.x.

Wayne Erickson, the head of R:Dream Team, will explain
more technical details at the Fall 2004 R:BASE Developers'
Conference. http://www.rbase.com/conference

The same enhancement has been implemented in the latest
private betas of Oterro 3.0 and R:BASE V-8 "Turbo".

Hope that provides the insight you are not personally
familiar with.

Very Best R:egards,

Razzak.
