The problem was if you printed to the screen or directly to the printer
everything was fine, but as soon as you print to a text file extra line
feeds/carriage returns are added at random spots in the file.
Work around.
1. Add a generic text only printer
2. Text Printer Properties > Device Settings > Form to tray Assignment >
Cont. Feed No Break
From the drop down select Not Available
3. This will work except it will prompt for a name. To get around this do
the following
Add a new printer that prints to the special "File:" port
From the printers' panel, right click on the printer you have just
added and select Properties.
A panel showing the properties for this printer will pop up, click on
the Details tab of this panel.
Click on the Add Port... button.
The Add Port panel will pop up, click on the Other radio button, and
make sure Local Port is highlighted, click on OK.
A small panel asking for the name of the port will pop up, enter the
name of a file in the edit box, for example C:\Output.prn.

I've tried to find out how to do this, too, but to no avail.
The best solution that I have come up with is to use my v6.5++ reports
by launching an instance of that version of R:Base and running the reports from
there. It's a damn sight quicker, as well.
Much the same as I have had to do for the last year, or more, with
RStyle - which in v6.5++ at least picks out some of my errors whereas v7.x
doesn't even manage that.
The help in v6.5++ is at accurate, too, and if that doesn't help me I
can refer back to the v5.5 manuals. I know that they're out of date but I
believe them and everything is in the same place rather than scattered around
various systems without any useful index.
Maybe it's time for RBTI to take a short break from inventing new and
undocumented ideas and actually get all the basics to work properly first. Yes,
of course, much does already work well and all the new fangled bits and bobs
are nice and there's obviously lots of good stuff to come but unless the
foundation is firm the building will eventually collapse.

I think this was covered before but I can't remember now.
Is there a way to print a report to a text file without page
breaks.
This would be the same as setting the lines to 0 in 6.5++
