If you can see the date and it's something like 03/03/05 and it's not sorting properly, it could also be that your date format was different at some point.

SET DATE MM/DD/YYYY

and you might see your date as 03/03/0005 instead of 03/03/2005

Just a thought. Also, as I recall, Bill Downall has some code which will find/fix bad dates.
