Razzak,

Thanks for your help and your kind words. I followed the suggested
procedure. Instead of deleting the old RBTI\RBG7 directory I just renamed
it. After the installation from my v.7.0 disk, I downloaded and installed
the 7.1.80/30421 upgrade. It went very quickly and it started right up when
I was finished. I copied one of my databases (x.rb*) into the new RBTI\RBG7
directory and tried to connect it. At first, I received the message "The
database is currently unavailable - it is probably open with MULTI set to
OFF". I set MULTI to OFF, and received a message that said "The database is
connected in a mode that makes it unavailable to you". After some time
trying to investigate this, I find that the original problem has returned
and R:BASE will take several minutes to start and the mouse cursor will be
locked up during this time. I also checked my desktop icon and it is
pointed to the right location and the right file. I feel as if I am going
backwards - I'm becoming suspicious that something else is being a player in
this saga. I appreciate everyone's time and interest in this problem, and I
note that Alastair's description of his experience is exactly the same as
mine, so that leads me back to thinking it's rbase related somehow. Any
further suggestions and/or recommendations will be gratefully received.

Thanks again,

JWS

Jim,

01. Follow the instructions and see if it helps.

02. FYI, all RBG7 updates are cumulative; there is
no need to install update 79 before applying the
     update 80, for example.

03. If you need to start from scratch, I suggest that
you install R:BASE 7.1 using the latest installer.

You may contact RBTI Support Team at 724.733.0053
or mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] to request a new CD
     with up-to-date builds, etc.

04. Should you require further assistance, please feel
free to contact RBTI or myself.

With your positive attitude and the professional manner
in which you have been communicating on this list, I
personally will do everything I can to help you.

Being a member of this great list is a privilege.

Very Best R:egards,

Razzak.
