hehe, so would i. someone commented to me yesterday that citrix was
a great solution to a ridiculous problem. he's a unix guy, so you can
see where he was coming from there...

the 1100a is not the sort of printer i'd be wanting to print 180 page
reports to day in day out. it's a home office printer and maybe the
lack of on board memory is an issue. it's also not the sort of product
hp would be devoting much time to as far as driver compatibility with
terminal services. i've had similar problems with the hp1300 series.

is the server win2k or win2k3? are there specific terminal services
drivers for the 1100a that should be installed on the server?

is the default paper size consistent all the way through for the 1100?
between the client and the server there are about a million different
places to set this. being australian, one of the biggest pains in the
backside is constantly having to change the default of letter to a4.
inconsistencies like this can send some printers completely berzerk.

does this report print ok on a different printer? does it print ok if
you print straight to the printer rather than from screen?

unfortunately troubleshooting these things can just be all trial and
error. i feel your pain.

I would like to terminate Terminal Services!

Printing a vanilla report, all pages (the default), the user must "ready" their printer for every page. But, when they specify the page range (1-x) for all pages, then it works just fine. ?????

Any ideas why that would be?

You might want to compare the properties of both reports (page sizes, orientation, margins, etc.) and see if you can spot a difference.

Thanks Javier,

I'll have them check, but a 10-20 page report prints with no intervention whereas this large report requires that they press the Ready button on every page.

It is likely that the printer is setup for manual page feeding (manual tray feed). In both of my printers (Minolta, Lexmark), if the printer is set up for the manual feed tray, it will prompt after each page and when you press the button it redirects to the default tray. When you display the form to the screen and then click on the printer icon, it will open a window; you can access from there the printer settings and verify the paper source.

RB7.1 (Official release)

Terminal Services
All reports are printed to the screen and then the user (optionally) clicks on the printer icon. They've only being on RB7x for a couple of weeks. When they print a 180 page report on an HP laserjet 1100A, they have to press Ready after every page. Anything I can do on the printer/Rbase side or is it printer settings/spooling?

Thanks,

Dennis
