It does indeed look pretty cool, though I think 1x9 would be tough for the
Palomar observatory mountain climb I did this weekend.

(but that might have been a tough sell for the group ride anyway.  Seriously
though‹it¹s conveniently located between Oceanside, SD, and OC! And really
beautiful!)
