I've experienced the aggression you're referring to in the east bay hills. 
I don't have any answer to you other than I suffer through it as well. 
Still, the cars don't really slow me down much. If they're going very slow 
or stop I can almost always slip right by. And yes, when I'm climbing with 
two kids I crawl. When it's hot, I sweat a lot.
