Thanks all. And, FYI, I had not yet done what I had planned to do...wax/ball-bearing the allen nut connecting my seat to the pit-locked seat post. That would have at least the thief down.
Dave: there's nothing obviously special about the bag--the leather was waxed, but it was still in new-ish condition. I received the bag from Riv without slits cut in the leather bottom to connect it to a rack. So, I cut rough slits for this purpose myself. It's wasn't the most elegant looking but functional.
