I carry a patch kit, but only for dire, dire emergencies. Like that time I
had 5 flats on a 600K. I flatted for the last time with approximately 126
miles to go, just heading out on Day 2. Nobody else in my group was riding
650b, everyone else was 700c. Had I flatted again I would have been
patching tubes. Thankfully, it stopped raining and with that, I stopped
getting flats and was able to finish without getting any more flats.

It's a good thing because, had I had to stop again and patch a tube, I
probably would have timed out at the turnaround control, as I was fighting
a north (head)wind gusting to 30mph. As I was I made it to the turnaround
with 3 minutes to spare.

Thankfully, the trip back was a breeze, literally, with 25+ mph speeds
being fairly effortless as the north wind had become a tailwind! Finished
in 38:51, and that was with a leisurely stop at the penultimate control.

>From the lessons learned department: that was my last brevet on
Pari-Motos. I ordered Compass Loup Loups after that and have been quite
happy with them.
