In the photo there is visible wear on the middle & outer but nowhere near the point of replacement. Have you checked that the new chain is correct? I actually used a 9 speed chain on an 8 speed drivetrain without noticing but I may have been lucky. Weird stuff can happen that way. If you're having shift problems after changing chains, it could be the chain.
