I just finished a ride on my 1x kid hauling riv. I used a IRD mjolnir crank, shimano bar end on paul thumbie, and sunrace 11-42 cassette. 9 speed, friction shifting. works great and i mostly pieced it together from stuff i already had, minus the crank. i dont remember if i did any calculations for chainline, but id assume that middle ring would be the right position.
