Yes, "of the road" (but maybe not roadish). But what complicates matters here is that by idiomatic convention, a "road bike" in Italian is "bicicletta da corsa" (literally: racing bike) not "bicicletta da strada".
Lately, the term "bicicletta da strada" has been trickling into Italian usage, perhaps as an incorrect literal translation of the English term "road bike" into Italian. In a recent Touring Club Italiano book on biking vacations in Italy, they even used "bici da strada" to refer to road bikes. But general usage still favors "bici da corsa". And I'd wager that in the age Coppi and Bartali, "bici da strada" would seem nonsensical, since they were racing on dirt roads just as much as (perhaps even more than) on pavement.
