One disadvantage, perhaps a minor one for a given rider, is that (at least IME) tires much fatter than ~32 mm do make the handling less "crisp" than narrower tires; for example, the otherwise very nice ride of the 42 mm Naches Pass is slightly less "agile" than that of the simply superbe 29 mm Elk Pass.
