Thanks so much for all the great advice and for sharing your experiences
re: the car racks! Yesterday afternoon we spent some time in our local shop
and ended up getting that Kuat NV 2.0, 2-Bike Hitch Rack. (Though one of
the mechanics had a 1UP himself and recommended it, too.) They installed it
and we tried it out today on Hwy. 1 (and on our neighborhood potholes!). It
seems very solid and the bike didn't budge...and the combined weight of
bike and rack didn't sink the Subaru either...so all good so far:) When we
get my husband's Platypus (50 cm) we'll see how it does with both bikes.
Here's a photo of the first time on the rack for Clem and of sunset into
