It certainly will depend on the type of fenders you are running, as well as the size of the tires. Aluminum/steel will not flex as must as the plastic fenders do. My QB fenders are set up to clear in the small/small setup - a position which has the rear axle at the tips of the fork ends. The fender clearance is just enough to get the axle to roll out and drop free with a _minor_ bit of a nudge. What I ended up doing was using an extra set of QR's (the plastic blocks which mount on the front) This gives me a bit more rearward position. Further, I can always pop the stays out if I need an extra bit of room. If you haven't cut the stays, you probably don't need to use the QR's. The fender line ends up in a bit more of an arc, but getting the wheels in/out hasn't been an issue.
