I will add that high quality housing will sometimes make a huge
difference. I used a kind of axially wound (instead of spiral wound)
housing on the road BB7s on my Monocog (the housing looks like beefed
up index system derailleur cable) and it made a huge difference: the
rear would earlier squeeze to the bar with little result; afterward,
the best rear braking I've had for any kind of brake with any kind of
setup -- almost hydraulic disk in feel.
