This year I have been doing quite a bit of club riding, which seems to be just paceline riding. I have to say I don't prefer it and agree with Steve F that it is tense and tedious. It is also the reason why most clubs that I have tried to participate in lose beginning members or people who don't want to ride like they are preparing for a race. It is a shame that most of the club rides are geared towards pacelining. Paceline riding is a race technique and good for getting more speed out of a group of riders, but why it has to be what "road biking" is all about is beyond me.
