I just installed a pair of Hillbubba's modification to a set of Grip King
pedals on my Mystery Bike (the mod is extremely easy, and provides substantial
additional platform area and support with negligible widening of the pedal
platform), and discovered that (contrary to Bill's instructions) the reflectors
do not have to be removed and can be preserved. Since I, too, like having the
reflectors, I kept them. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Hillbubba mod, BTW. Extremely
comfortable (even more than the stock GK, especially if you have wide feet),
and no downsides at all that I can see.

Subject: [RBW] Re: Riv's New Pedals

Good to know. I'm tempted to get some but first I'm gonna try putting some
pedal spikes in my Grip Kings. Didn't Grant say a while back that there was
gonna be GKs with better bearings and spikes? Maybe I'm wrong. I actually like
that the GKs have reflectors so I wanna stick with them. I can't believe I just
said that. When I first got them I wasn't a fan of the reflectors.

Sometimes if you're patient enough and wait long enough good things come your

offering from VIP. When I spied these on their web catalog I ordered a pair
right away and have not been disappointed with them in any way - they are
exactly what Riv (Grant?) describes them to be. I replaced the cheap, clunky
old MoSH BMX pedals on my Rambouillet and went for a test spin. They do,
indeed, have a much lower profile and the pedaling is much, much smoother
presumably due to higher quality axles and bearings. I also noticed that the
exposed threads on the pins that are screwed into these pedals tend to grip
much better than the smooth-ended pins in my old ones. But then there was one
more surprise: all of the creaking and other racket I couldn't exactly
identify in my drive train has disappeared! Riv also offers these pedals at
around the same price as any of the other Web retailers so no need to look
anyplace else.
