My polling place is only a couple of blocks off my usual bike commute route so I just stopped in on the way to work. I was not the first person to vote but I was close enough in line to see the first person come out of the ballot area and to join in when the crowd applauded.
There's no shortage of "irrational opinions," at the extremes of both sides. My fervent hope is that there will be enough consensus builders to move us forward and soon. Absolutism has no place in a democracy as varied as ours--no one gets things all their way, every time. Solving problems and finding solutions most every one can live with are the very definition of "politic."
