LOL! But it's true.

The most experienced randonneur that I know has done 5 or 6 PBPs and super
randonneur series on a Guerciotti race bike. He puts a rear rack with a trunk
bag on it, no fenders, and has a quickly installable front generator. He has
never expressed a need for a bike like Renè Herse or in Alex Singer. And I've
seen very experienced riders doing brevets on custom-built Chris Kvale bikes
with front bags. I've seen riders on recumbent trikes and bicycles. At PBP I
saw probably a dozen people riding in velomobiles, more dozens on single and
tandem trikes, a handful of Moultons- and one guy on a kick scooter. I saw no
Alex Singers or Rene Herses in person (this was the year Jan and Jaye rode a
mid-50s Herse tandem with great success, but I never saw them) but saw some
modern randonneuses built in the classic style by Berthoud and by Perrin. All
of them were faster than me...

I have done brevets on my Rivendell All Rounder, my Ritchey race bike, and my
cyclocross bike. They all worked fine, with my Ritchey being the bike on my
fastest and perhaps most comfortable brevet.

If it works for you, it works for you.
