Thanks all! This is very helpful.

Mike, I will. I already know from touring how much weight I can take how high
up. I could clearly over weight the large SS easily. I'll have to learn
temperance. Grin. When camping I have some clothing, my tent, stove (Kelly
Kettle), sleeping bag, and pad that go up there, that should all fit in with
room to spare. Side wobble is my biggest concern, but I can snug the leather
straps tight and with it anchored to the rack should be no worries. Carrying a
load with a wimpy brain has a steep learning curve. And I have a way of taking
shallow learning curves and making them steep. Grin.

The main reason I'm getting the large (over my current small) is the small is
too small for daily use in the Colorado highlands. Temp swings are often 40˚F
or more (today it is currently 30 pre dawn, with a predicted high near 70 with
possible t-heads). So my ride today, if my brain cooperates, needs a lot of
clothing options and they just don't fit in the small.

With abandon,
Patrick
