Elevon mixing in most Tx units is tuned for aircraft
performance not tank performance. Many elevon mixing
algorithms only provide about 75% of full speed when
the stick is pushed straight forward, straight back,
straight right or straight left. They provide full
speed to one track when the stick is pushed to corners.
(You may be able to see this with the LEDs on your
Victors.)

At my office, we have used the RobotLogic IMX-1 mixer
to get better performance for tracked unmanned ground
vehicles (UGVs) with IFI Victors. (We actually prefer
the RoboteQ AX2550 with internal mixing
http://www.roboteq.com/ ).

IMX-1 mixers are available directly from RobotLogic
http://www.robotlogic.com/product_imx1.html
or from Robot Marketplace
http://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/RL-IMX1.html

I recommend to start with elevon mixing to get your
tank rolling. If you feel the need for increased
performance, you may be able to retune the mixing
algorithm in your Tx unit. Alternately the IMX-1 is
a simple upgrade.

P.S. I drive with the right stick but I am in the
minority.
