In actual fact, Pete, don't worry.

For everyone's benefit, I'm going to document the way I ended up doing 
it on the FA006 pages.  Might be a week or so before I manage to get 
that up there though

Here's a simple explanation:

Hinge under the mid-point reduces amount of torque required from the servo.

Thanks to the accidental discovery of the ratchet emulation mechanism of 
the C6C (I never bother to read the manuals!) I now have a very reliable 
elevate system.

Thanks to all this, the turret is nearing completion.  All that remains 
is adding the BattleSwitch to control the actuator, and also a reliable 
feed system.  And that's another game....
