I was poking around www.altronics.com and came across some interesting stuff. First, there's a $10 planetary gear the fits many scooter motors http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-store/item/PLG-360/PLANETARY-GEAR/1.htm l It's very compact. The output connects to a splined shaft, which isn't very useful for us. You could probably bolt a gear or sprocket to the output plate and bypass the shaft altogether. The planetary unit provides a 4.5:1 reduction, so you'd still need another modest stage. They also carry a scooter motor that fits the input of the gear unit. http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-store/item/DCM-1501/24VDC-450W-MOTOR-D- SHAFT/1.html I still have a pair of M01s begging to be installed in a new tank, so I doubt I'll try the planetary thing soon.
