I always understood that you could not MIG weld aluminum. Is that correct ?

Actually, weld beauty depends more on the person doing the welding than the type of welder being used. You can lay down some very nice looking welds with a MIG welder if you have a steady hand and you can lay down some truly ugly welds with a TIG welder if you don't have a steady hand (and foot).
