Hmmm ... very interesting question. I know a guy who once built an R/C
combat warship with only cutting knifes and hacksaw blades (not even a
hacksaw frame) because he was on a ship at the time. In my early hobby
days, I also built quite a few things without many tools. So, here's
what I think is "minimal":
- Jigsaw or hand saw
- Drill (power or hand)
- Hammer
- Screwdriver
- Pencil
- Yardstick
- Adjustable wrench
- Pliers
- Bastard file or rasp
I think those tools (all easily purchased at a flea market or yard sale)
are sufficient to build not only a tank, but also lots of other
projects. Granted, with only those tools lots of things will take
longer and you'll have to be ingenious with some of your building
techniques, but that's part of the challenge of saving money.
