There are lots of 1/16 scale metal track sets available on ebay depending on what tank you want to make and some of the upgraders also then resell the plastic tracks back onto ebay usually for about $25 aussie I put metal tracks and metal gear boxes with larger motors on mt tiger tank but the running time dropped from about 30 minutes to about 10 minutes so a battery upgrade is needed but I have not bothered.
