I'm thinking that electric powered tanks are far more simple, more reliable, and just as powerful (if not more so!) than an engine driven tank. Engine driven tank would be cool. But I suspect it will not be as competative as electric tanks for the reasons stated above. Mike

New Ideas a steam engine brings numerous hazards, 1 fuel yoiu have a burner with essentially an open flame, 2 pressure, youre making a potential bomb, 3 steam burns its hot as shit and comes out under high pressure, 4 incredible inefficient i dont see why an engine driven tank wouldnt be able to compete against electrically driven counterparts. and preform pretty much seamlessly side by side... the tank itself is identical to an electric only the guts driving the tracks change, ________________________________ From: "Stu" <[email protected]> To: "R/C Tank Combat" <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, May 15, 2012 10:40:15 AM Subject: [TANKS] Re: Why Not? Just a thought (as I am STILL trying to make a box that rolls), but, what about a Steam Engine? Are they any quieter/safer? I was thinking that limiting/routing pressure is easier than building a mechanical transmission, but I think changes in speed/direction would be too slow. Perhapse a kit-bashed steam engine could power an alternater/generator to charge a 12v battery? Would the cost x volume x weight / power ratio exceed that of having another 12v battery?
