Most of the mechanical complexity could be dealt with by doing a hybrid drive--just put a generator(another motor) on a chainsaw engine, and use that instead of batteries. This could even be drop in. the idea of a gas engine powering a generator to power electric motors is a thought. something like that might be more ideal for something around a 1:4 scale tank. or would hydraulics be more practical?
