One more thing to consider, too. Do we have any reason to believe that the
other 17Ah batteries are truly 17Ah ? Has anyone besides Electonic Goldmine
(the $10 seller) tested them ?

I'm very tempted to believe that two SLA batteries the same size have roughly
the same capacity. Unless one is hollow or filled with rocks, it doesn't seem
like there could be much difference. They're probably made in the same
factories and simply labelled for the individual brands.

I think everybody is missing a point here.  SLA's are SLA's.  There all crap
compared to the newer technology but they do work and at a reasonable price.
Chargers are common, cheap, and easy to use.  The batteries in question are a
common forma factor (I use two of this type in the Cromwell).  These cheap
batteries might be a good option for someone to use for building and testing.
After they have the tank built, you can then upgrade to the $80 (each) Werker
12V 20AH deep cycle's that run the Cromwell for a good hour.

Which is another reason to stay away from them.  Those 7AH batteries I used for
testing only powered the KV for about 3 min before noticeably draining.  I need
batteries that can deliver more amps for longer.  Hence wanting to go with the
LiFEPO4 bats.

its not half the power though, the way lead acid batteries and for that matter
most all batteries work is their voltage drops with power draw. a 17Ah battery
thats rating out at 10Ah is for all intents junk, its voltage drop will be far
greater than that of a healthy 17Ah battery, greater than simply the straight
amp difference the the batteries rating out at 10Ah will also not be able to
supply the same current draw before overloading. Id be leery of buying these
batteries

The seller says the tested spec is closer to 10Ah. Still, they aren’t going to
get any less expensive than this:

Doug,

I put two in my shopping cart and checked shipping.
$20.00 for two batteries
$24.20 for shipping
Total = $44.20 for two

eBay item 170883786550
RBC7 two 12V 18Ah SLA batteries
free shipping
Total = $72.48 for two

About half-power for about half-price
