The part that makes us look silly is expecting catalogers to learn rules
for inputting such punctuation and arguing among themselves about it
rather than letting software supply as needed for display.
There is no need to add ending punctuation to elements that are
displayed on separate lines, and it certainly doesn't need to be carried
in the data, i.e., in the MARC field (except for the limitations of MARC
and our systems).
