Some random findings while building Q3 2009 on Windows XP:

I started off with the MS compiler, and it would constantly fail while looking for unistd.h. This is a UNIX header file that I don't think needs to be included in a Win32 application - not sure. I could probably fix that by creating an empty unistd.h somewhere in the compiler's search path. Instead, I opted to compile with GCC through a MinGW installation on this same Windows machine. I usually opt for GCC anyway, and in this case if solved the problem.

When I went into python and executed "from rdkit import Chem" I got an error saying that it couldn't find a DLL - boost_thread-mgw34-mt-1_41.dll I think. This is one of Boost's build targets and I see a similarly named .lib file in the Boost library directory, but no dll. Searching through the Boost build tree, I can find two DLLs of interest, so I just copied them into C:\Boost\lib. The Boost build/install should have done this for me, but for some reason did not.

All said and done, a working RDKit_Q32009_1 build. (At least through the 2D drawing example.)

Yes, yes - I tried that this weekend. No, wait - I didn't have the rooster-devel package installed! Damn!!
