We kicked this around in class a little.. consensus is that it depends on weather or not (or how) the grounded (Neutral) conductor is connected..  690.41 says you gotta ground the "System" in accordance with 250.4(A).. (for surges).. 690.43 and such is for Grounding equipment (Different Animal).  So I'm thinking no.. Check out Article 100-I, 250.20(D) and although 690.3 doesn't mention it specifically (which means it might not apply) 705.50 requires "Interconnected Power Production Sources" to be grounded in accordance w/ Article 250... Clear as Mud? Well as my Instructor likes to say (He's an Electrician at the State Mental Facility).. "I must be off".. db

Subject: [RE-wrenches] Are PV Systems are considered separately derived
systems?

What's the best answer when someone asks if PV Systems are considered
separately derived systems?

It still seems to be up to whoever is doing the considering (AHJ), and I
don't like that answer.

I believe the answer is yes they are. And 690.47 tells us how to ground
them.

"(C) Systems with Alternating-Current and Direct-Current Grounding
Requirements. Photovoltaic systems having dc circuits and ac circuits with
no direct connection between the dc grounded conductor and ac grounded
conductor shall have a dc grounding system. The dc grounding system shall be
bonded to the ac grounding system by one of the methods in (1), (2), or
(3)."

Any help is appreciated
