You didn't touch the power board ?
If changing out the control board seems to make it work and regulate output
voltage properly, it's probably good and I would try running some
larger loads
to test it. You may have gotten lucky.
Unless you want to keep that old replacement board for a special occasion,
I'd go with it. Can't hurt, right ? It may or may not charge though ?
The charger uses a triac that may or may not be good still.

Hi GreyBeards,
Does anyone remember the Trace DR Series of transformer based
inverters? I have a user who has suffered a lightning strike and has
wasted the control board on their 1512 (no lights when battery power
is applied). The board from my 3624 fits precisely into the space and
after changing the jumpers, the lights light up and powers a small
load. The small load is all I've tried so far. It occurred to me to
verify this is an approved solution before I waste a good board, if I
haven't already.
If these boards are interchangeable, does anyone have defunct DR
equipment (with a serviceable control board) or if they are not
interchangeable, specifically a 1512 control board? Alternatively,
does anyone provide board level diagnostics/repair?
As always, thanks for the wisdom that this newsgroup offers,
