Chris,
My first take on it is that it's been developed for those who already have batteryless GT systems and now want to add backup capability. The Tesla Powerwall has generated plenty of buzz, even though it's still expensive and unavailable, for battery backup. Seems like smart marketing to me, to have a ready solution to allow a relatively simple add-on package, with batteries, battery-based inverter, and controller/transfer switch, that allows the array to recharge the batteries during an outage. The Radian (or Schneider XW) are good approaches for new systems, but there are thousands of batteryless string-inverter systems out there, and this is a key part of an add-on package. Seems to me it beats an AC-coupled add-on package.
Just my $0.02001, as Matt used to write...

I'm having trouble understanding the application for this product. I have the tristar 600V CC in my own home.
If I want to have backup and also export to the grid, the Outback radian does that without the need to change anything over.  WHy would you want to have the Radian as a backup AND have a grid tied inverter, and have to change over a manual switch to provide power to the CC? What am I missing?

I would appreciate more opinions and comments on the new Morningstar Controller for Grid connected systems .  I developed a simple transfer switch back for this type of application back when Grid Connected systems were 48 volts . This seems like a great idea for high voltage Grid Connected System . Tom
